Mutual funds

Grant Thornton's Financial Services practice is a premier service provider to the mutual fund industry, lending guidance through all aspects of audit, regulatory reporting and tax requirements.

The United States leads the world in financial asset management, including managing almost 60 percent of the world’s mutual funds. Globalization of the securities markets, after-hours trading, and new financial instruments and products have led to enormous growth of the U.S. mutual fund and investment management industry.

Our approach allows for an efficient audit of mutual funds based on:

  • The processes of asset management
  • Gaining an understanding of your controls
  • Standardizing many aspects common to most mutual funds (asset pricing, diversification testing, etc).

Our tax group works with the audit team and client management to evaluate the federal, state/local and international provisions for each reporting entity. We consider Subchapter M qualifications, financial statement tax disclosures and year-end dividends, all in conjunction with annual audits. Our goal is to identify opportunities for tax minimization and efficient tax reporting.
