Designated an essential service, City Harvest, New York City’s largest food rescue organization, has mobilized to feed all New Yorkers in need during COVID-19 and beyond. Even before COVID-19, 2.5 million New Yorkers were struggling to make ends meet and now many who have never before needed food assistance are turning to food pantries for help. Their fleet of 22 trucks remains on the road, rescuing and delivering food for community food programs across the city. They will rescue and deliver 74 million pounds of food by the end of June—10 million more pounds than projected at the beginning of the year. They are committed to feeding everyone who was relying on them previously, and to meeting the increasing need as we all contend with the economic impacts of COVID-19. Thank you, City Harvest!
