Grant Thornton’s Alexis Adams named a Notable Black Leader by Crain’s New York Business

NEW YORK  — Grant Thornton, one of America’s largest brands of professionals providing end-to-end audit, assurance, tax, and advisory services, has a new award winner in New York City. Alexis Adams, a Tax principal for the firm, has been named to the prestigious “Notable Black Leaders” list published by Crain’s New York Business. The annual awards recognize talented and accomplished Black individuals from a wide variety of industries, honoring them for their professional and communal achievements.

“In a little over three years since joining the firm, Alexis has made an incredible impact on both our culture and our growth in New York,” said Matt DiDonato, Grant Thornton’s managing principal for the New York Metro market. “Her tax knowledge is unrivaled, and her passionate advocacy has helped strengthen the diversity of our firm and our profession.”

Adams began her career as an auditor, and when she joined Grant Thornton in 2021, she already had 16 years of experience in successive tax and accounting leadership roles. In her current role as a Tax principal, she serves public and private companies across various industries, including technology, manufacturing and retail. Adams also manages relationships with several of her firm’s major clients and leads teams of dozens of professionals spanning New York City and the Northeast. Her superior client service and knack for thorough, long-term planning has helped companies achieve their international growth goals, and this, in turn, has fueled ongoing growth for her firm.

Outside of work, Adams is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). She graduated from the AICPA’s Leadership Academy and has designed and taught multiple continuing education courses to her colleagues. Additionally, she is a member of the Corporate Advisory Board for the National Association of Black Accountants, through which she focuses on advancing diversity and supporting working parents. She is frequently invited to speak at diversity, equity and inclusion programs across the country. At these events, Adams often discusses how she started her career as a single mother to a daughter to whom she gave birth in college.

“I’m a lifelong New Yorker, so receiving this recognition from Crain’s New York is incredibly special,” she said. “But most importantly, I share this honor with my many talented teammates and my daughter, who has been a source of motivation throughout my entire career. In addition to providing personalized service to all of my clients, I’m eager to cultivate inclusive and supportive communities for young professionals like her — and all women pursuing their dreams in business.”

Adams earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in taxation from Baruch College in New York City.
