Robert Michaelis

 

 

 

Executive summary

 

Rob Michaelis has three decades of experience in the tax industry and is currently a principal leading the state and local tax (SALT) practice for Grant Thornton’s Boston office. He also leads the SALT mergers and acquisition team.

 

Before joining Grant Thornton, Michaelis spent ten years with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the SALT practice. He also spent over three years with RSM McGladrey, where he was a partner and practice leader of the Great Lakes regional SALT practice. Additionally, he served as the vice president of tax for an $18 billion national distributor of grocery products.

 

In these roles, Michaelis gained significant experience in providing strategic tax planning and restructuring services, due diligence/transition review and state tax compliance services for both multinational public companies and privately held businesses. His expertise covers income/franchise taxes, sales/use taxes, property taxes, state employment taxes and unclaimed property issues.

 

Michaelis is a recognized speaker on a multitude of SALT issues. He has presented at firm-sponsored programs and for national and regional professional industry groups such as COST, TEI, IPT, local CPA societies, and local trade associations.

Education

 

Michaelis obtained his bachelor’s degree in accountancy from Northern Illinois University and his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law.
