Lasting Legacy: Company values of toughness and pride that stand the test of time
For nearly 100 years, workers have relied on Williamson-Dickie products because the company has remained true to its principles founded back in 1922 – offering premium quality workwear, at an unmatched value and backed by an unconditional satisfaction guarantee – because Williamson-Dickie is confident their products work as hard as their customers do.
Established in Texas, a state known for its grit, and founded by two cousins, Williamson-Dickie’s story began in 1918, when business partners C.N. Williamson and E.E. “Colonel” Dickie began a vehicle and harness business, creating rough and
tumble equipment for horses. By 1922, the two shifted from outfitting workhorses to outfitting workers, and established the Williamson-Dickie Mfg. Co. Since then, Williamson-Dickie has spent nearly a century crafting some of the most well-respected workwear around.
Through the 1930s, Williamson-Dickie rode out the Great Depression, expanding its workwear business while offering all-you-can-eat meals to its workers on the production line free of charge. During WWII, the company was sequestered by the U.S. government, and halted its consumer business to produce more than 9 million heavy duty twill
uniforms for the war effort. By the 1950s, southern oilmen had introduced Williamson-Dickie brands, Dickies and Walls, to the oil fields of the Middle East, solidifying the company as a trusted name in international workwear.
To this day Williamson-Dickie, still a family run company, is synonymous with quality. What began as a humble workwear company has grown into a worldwide force with an impressive portfolio of nine revered brands and strengthened by hundreds of retail stores, strong e-commerce platforms all supported by passionate/loyal consumers.
Ongoing Innovation: Products made for those who push themselves to the limit
Williamson-Dickie designs new products that provide workers with comfort and performance on the job. As professional-grade workwear continues to grow in demand and use, the company has invested time and resources to innovate current
products and design new ones to specifically meet the demands of the wearer. By embracing innovations in fabric performance features such as moisture wicking, drying, cooling, odor management, UV protection and ventilation in
addition to continuously updating traditional performance features like stain release and wrinkle resistance, the next generation of performance-driven workwear has arrived.
The Future: Working with Williamson-Dickie to prepare for the next hundred years
Grant Thornton is proud to provide Williamson-Dickie with customized global audit and tax services and has worked to support the company’s growth
through important business acquisitions and ongoing global expansion projects. As Williamson-Dickie approaches its 100-year anniversary, the
company is well-positioned to achieve continual growth and enduring success - and Grant Thornton is honored to help it prepare for that tomorrow.
“We have been served by a number of professional service providers over the years and Grant Thornton offers a rather different experience. Our Grant Thornton team is extremely focused on outstanding client service that combines adept work with the global reach we need to not only maintain, but judiciously grow our business.”
