EU ESG disclosure: Impacts to US entities and how to prepare

Event description

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will impact many U.S. entities with EU operations. This new regulation aims to standardize and improve sustainability reporting by requiring companies to disclose a broader range of information on their ESG performance and it's imperative for your company to have a plan.

  • Thousands of U.S. based public and private companies will need to report on a wide range of ESG issues, broader and deeper in scope than the proposed SEC rule on climate change or many voluntary reporting frameworks.
  • Company structure and revenue will determine if you must begin basic mandatory reporting in 2024 or 2025, and certain U.S. companies with over €150M in EU revenue will need to report under the CSRD’s complex framework at the consolidated level by 2028.
  • The CSRD may demand substantial changes to your existing sustainability reporting processes and systems with major impacts to data collection and reliability challenges. Third party assurance is required in the first year of reporting under the CSRD.

Members of Grant Thornton's ESG & Sustainability team from the U.S. and Germany will discuss how to navigate the complex CSRD requirements to help you be prepared.
