I’m thriving at Grant Thornton
I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in public accounting where I could keep working with not-for-profits while connecting with more people. But I was worried that in a professional, corporate setting, I wouldn’t be able to connect with others in ways that represent my true self. I thought I’d have to code-switch and blend in with everyone else. But after joining Grant Thornton, I realized I don’t have to hide who I am to get the experience I want — and working at a company that encourages authenticity makes my life better, too.
I made it here by being me
Even though Grant Thornton is a large firm, I’ve found I can bring my own culture to work. I'm a native New Yorker and come from a big Dominican-American family, and I feel comfortable opening up and sharing that side of me with both teammates and clients. And as a first-generation college graduate, I'm proud of what I've achieved to get here — and that I'm embraced for being my own self.
“Whether I’m talking to teammates or clients, I show up as I am. No matter where I am, I’m going to be me.”

I’m carving my own path
I thought I’d have to leave my community service involvement behind in college. But here, I get to support clients in the not-for-profit industry and engage in social issues that are important to me, like intersectionality, in my work with our business resource groups (BRGs). And I love getting opportunities to connect with Latinx and Hispanic students to show them what their career path can look like.
I can still put family first
My family is extremely important to me. I’m the oldest of five siblings and my family currently has six generations living! Grant Thornton’s hybrid work model and flexible time off allows me to find pockets of free time to connect with them and take time off to visit them in the Caribbean. I'm grateful I can stay close with them while I pursue my career.
